Bali by the Numbers: June Figures Strong for Bali Arrivals as Island Shoots for 2.5 million visitors by Year's End.
(7/31/2010) Half year figures for foreign tourist arrivals to Bali are now available, indicating good growth figures are back on course after a momentary April lull. June arrivals month-on-month increased 15.19% (219,574) as compared to June 2009. On a cumulative basis for the first half of the year total arrivals equaled 1,148,461 – an increase of 12.86% over the previous year.
Projection for 2010
Now, with the first six months arrival figures in hand, it is possible to extrapolate that, assuming arrival growth trends hold steady through the remainder of the year, Bali will end 2010 with a record-high 2.5 million visitors.
Jubilation on this point should, however, be tempered with the fact that Bali visitors are trending to stay for shorter periods and spending less on a
per diem basis. As a result, despite an increase in arrivals for 2009, total foreign exchange earned by tourism declined.
Results Among Bali's Leading Source Countries for Tourists

Australia - Australia's hold on the lead position is cemented further by stronger-than-ever arrivals to Bali from "down under." Australian arrivals equaled 64,827 for June 2010, contributing on a cumulative basis to total arrivals January – June from that market of 279,539, an increase of 53.59%.

Japan - Japan's glory days as the main source of tourist visitors for the island are becoming a distant memory. Now in a far-removed 2nd place, Japanese arrivals totaled 20,288 in June. Reflecting a troubled Japanese economy and record levels of unemployment, on a cumulative basis for the first six months of 2010 Japanese arrivals are down 21.53%.

People's Republic of China - PRC arrivals for June were at 14,726 with the Chinese travelers now representing the 3rd most significant source of Bali visitors. This market has, however, stabilized with January-June arrivals totaling 98,545 – a very modest increase of only 0.64% when compared to the same period 2009.

Malaysia - Despite a downturn of 3.87% for Malaysian visitors January-June totaling 70,900 – Malaysia is in firm hold of 4th place among source markets for Bali.

Taiwan - Taiwan arrivals are on the rebound for Bali increasing 14.66% for the first half of 2010 (66,478).

South Korea - In 6th place, South Korea arrivals for the first six months of 2010 tallied 59,811. This total represents a decline of 5.09% over the same period in 2009.

United Kingdom - June arrivals from the U.K. equaled 8,219. For January-June cumulative arrivals from this market were up 20.24% at 45,661 earning 7th place within the race for top producing countries for Bali tourism.

France - French tourists rank 8th among Bali arrivals. This market is, however, on the decline down 3.59% for the first half of 2010.

The Netherlands - Dutch tourists are taking full advantage of new air access to Bali via
Garuda Indonesia. Dutch arrivals have increased 43.82% for the first six months of 2010 (36,872). This performance has secured Holland's 9th place among top producing markets for Bali.

Germany - is in 10th place among source markets for Bali with 35,572 visitors during the period January-June 2010. This is an improvement of 4.5% year on year for the same period.
•
U.S.A. - U.S. visitors to Bali are up 4.21% for the first half 2010 (35,403). This makes the U.S.A. the 11th most important source of visitors and signals the continuing recovery of that travel market for Bali.

Russia - Russian holds down 12th place with 32,494 visitors for the first half of 2010. This represents a modest 1.51% increase from the 2010 performance.
Performance by Region
As shown on
balidiscovery.com, all geographic regions are reporting improved arrivals for Bali. Most encouraging, however, are improvements from Europe and the Americas – two areas essential to the island's tourism due to their pattern of longer stays and higher daily spends.
